"Sherlock vs Cthulhu" - Google AI Studio as Emergent Text Adventures engine
A downloadable game
Welcome to Sherlock vs. Cthulhu a gothic survival horror text adventure where the familiar fog of Victorian London conceals unthinkable terror. Merging the sharp deductive genius of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes with the unsettling cosmic dread of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, this game invites you to step into the shoes of a Nightmare Investigator.
Set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century London, you will traverse eerie alleyways and shadowed streets as you unravel brutal murders and inexplicable disappearances. As the boundary between reality and the nightmare world blurs, you must delve deep into a labyrinth of hallucinogenic mysteries where even the laws of nature seem to falter. Every decision, every clue gathered, draws you closer to a chilling confrontation with cosmic horrors that threaten to shatter not only your sanity but the very fabric of Victorian society.
Prepare for a journey where logic meets the inexplicable, and courage is your only shield against the encroaching darkness. Download the prompt and instructions to integrate with your chosen AI platform and commence your descent into a narrative where the stakes are as high as your determination to preserve your mind.
Now, sharpen your wits and steady your nerves—it's time to uncover the truth in Sherlock vs. Cthulhu.
With the release of Google's "thinking" models for Google AI Studio, we decided to develop a browser extension that leverages the models capabilities using them as a game engine for text-based adventures. The adventure emerges from the interaction between the player, the extension, and Gemini itself. It's a form of creative collaboration with the introduction of pseudo-random narrative elements, which we call Emergent Text Adventures !
Our browser extension, which overlays an interface on top of Google AI Studio, essentially filters out the thinking sections and adds meta-commands to the player's inputs to "push" AI creativity. For instructions and to better understand the philosophy behind this system, please refer to the downloadable PDF documents.
